Recording Technology
Course Description
This will be a two semester course covering the modern art of recording and live sound. We will focus on digital recording software such as Pro Tools and Garage Band, Apple Logic, and hopefully Ableton. We’ll discuss and apply microphone technique, signal processing, midi, making beats, studio terminology, and more to our projects. We will cover the 3 stages of recording: Tracking, Mixing/Post Production, and Mastering; as well as the 3 roles in recording: The Talent, The Engineer, and The Producer.
Chapin has for the first time a Pro Tools digital studio in F305, it will be a dedicated lab for recording projects for this class and for the school. It includes an iMac, a professional recording mixing console, professional monitors, and a decent library of studio microphones. Students will be required to log time training on the software, and will use the lab to finish class projects.

1) Understanding Audio: Getting the Most Out of Your Project or Professional Recording Studio.

Course Objectives - By the end of the course, students will:
Be able to engineer and produce real world recording projects, whether it be a rock band, Orchestra, voice overs, foley work, hip hop beats, and any audio work that can be found in real world situations.
