Advanced Guitar
Course Description
This is a continuation of the beginning and/or intermediate guitar courses. This course focuses on advanced music and technique as well as performance.
Course Objectives
By the end of the course, students will:

2. Binder for handouts
3. First Lessons for Guitar Julio Sagreras.
Grading Procedures and Expectations
The following grading scale will be used to evaluate a students’ performance:
100-90 = A | 89-80 = B | 79-75 = C | 74-70 = D | 69 or below = F
A Student’s grade includes the following:
1. Daily attendance, class participation -
this includes punctuality, participation, listening, staying on task.
2. Practice log
3. Worksheet Assignments/Homework
4. Tests written and performing
5. Performances
Requirements for Success:
You must practice minimum 30 minutes a day, 2 1/2 hours a week outside of school. Most professional musicians practice from 3-5 hours a day. Stay on top of your assignments and upcoming concerts.

There will be two noted performances in the 1st Semester, there will perhaps be more unscheduled concerts/performances. I will keep you updated as things come up. Concert Dates are TBA.
UIL
We are competing in the UIL Solo & Ensemble this year. This contest will be more difficult to prepare for compared to prior years, but you will have an opportunity to letter and go to state.

- Learn Advanced Theory Concepts, Improvisation in different scales/modes, Classical/Fingerstyle Technique. We will also explore the Rock, Jazz, Funk, Country , Bluegrass, Latin, and Reggae idioms as fully as possible.
- Perform multiple times through the year. This includes school performances, Jazz Contest, and Classical Contest.
- Have a further grasp on Ear Training and it’s relation to theory. Be able to sight read simple passages in 2 positions.
- Participate in various clinics through the year.

- Hal Leonard Guitar Method Book 3 $7
- Metronome (optional) $15-$30
- Electronic Tuner $15-$30
- Extra Set of Guitar Strings $10-$15
Concerts and Performances:

Classroom Rules:
- No Cell Phones, Music Players, or Media Devices – Cell Phones and all electronic devices will be confiscated and given to the business clerk. A fee is required to take the item out of the office.
- Guitar Requirement – You must have a guitar in class if you want to receive a grade. Failure to bring a guitar to class will result in zeros.
- No Drinks or Food Allowed – Only bottled water is allowed in the class area, all other consumable goods will be confiscated and thrown away.
- No Skateboards – There is no reason for a skateboard to be at school. Leave them at home, or they will be confiscated if brought into my classroom.
- Bringing Materials – If you have left your guitar in another class, you must pick up a tardy slip from the office as well as your guitar.
